The possibilities of intensive growing of pine and birch on post-agricultural lands
The seedlings were planted in loose planting space to limit the root contacts between trees and to delay the improvement cutting. The best results of pine growth were attained after the traditional soil treatment – ploughing with soil loosening. The method of early tree reduction was applied on the area with growing pine trees, during canopy closure. Tree reduction up to 1-3000 number/ha did not decrease the height increment of pine, however increased the diameter increment. No symptoms of root rot were found.
