Abstrakt

The effect of azadirachtin A (as the botanical insecticide Neem Azal T/S) on the third instar larvae of the pine moth, Dendrolimus pini L., was studied using four concentrations of active ingredient: 0.01%, 0.001%, 0.0001% and 0.00001%. Larvae were fed with Scots pine twigs treated with azadirachtin for 7 days. After that time larvae were fed with untreated needles until the pupation occurred.

In all variants the weight of larvae, excrements and pupae decreased strongly compared to the control. However, in the lowest concentrations the weight of larvae was increasing continuously until the pupation. In concentration of 0.0001% the weight of excrements was similar to the one observed in the control. Only in the highest concentration the complete starvation was observed. The mortality was increasing due to the growing concentrations and it was 10%, 40%, 85% and 100% respectively (LC50= 0.00014%). Moulting and pupation of larvae were delayed comparing to the control.
