Abstrakt

When one or a few trees die in a forest, small openings, which are called ‘gaps’ are formed in the forest canopy and are then filled with other trees. This is called a gap dynamics. A large number of papers and data on gap dynamics have been accumulated since 1970’s. Gap dynamics has been described in many forest types. Although a lot of studies on gap dynamics of natural forests have been conducted, applications of gap dynamics into forest practice are limited.
