Clone archives of the native old Scots pine and Norway spruce trees in the Białowieża Primeval Forest
To create clone archives for old trees the vegetative propagation was applied using the method of grafting from this year’s shoots onto two years old rootstocks. Breed strains were planted in the Białowieża Forest in two clone archives; the first was located in compartment 596 Ca situated in the Hajnówka Forest District with pine and spruce clones, and the second in compartment 152 Cg situated in the Browsk Forest District with spruce clones only.
After sixteen years of growth, the pine clones survival ranged from 0 to 100%, 53.8% an average, and the survival of the spruce clones in the period of fourteen years ranged from 0 to 70%, 44.4% an average.
