Coleoptera of selected families (Coleoptera: Sphaeritidae, Histeridae, Lymexylidae, Cerylidae, Colydiidae) as an element of ecological monitoring in Białowieża Primeval Forest
In the course of monitoring studies in Białowieża Primeval Forest (years 1988-1999) representatives of the families Sphaeritidae, Histeridae, Lymexylidae, Cerylidae and Colydiidae (Coleoptera) were collected. Altogether five study plots, localized in fresh mixed coniferous forest (3 plots), fresh mixed broadleaved forest and fresh broadleaved forest (1 plot each) yielded 192 specimens of these groups (tab. 1). In cases of the Cerylidae, Lymexylidae and part of Histeridae the most efficient proved the screen traps of the „window trap”-type. Generally, however, the methods employed do not provide as many specimens as to enable the quantitative analysis, including the search for correlation with environmental changes. Thence the groups in question are not suitable for the standard, quantitative monitoring studies. However, the analysis of the collected material allows to obtain valuable faunistic data.
