Growth characterlstics of lir natural regeneration in different stand structures
Investigations have been performed on several permanent plots established close to the natural silver fir distribution range in the lowlands of central Poland. Stands differ in storey structure and species composition. The number of sample trees from fir new growth and up growth have been measured. Annual height increment and so called „lightfactor” (relation between annual height increment of main shoot and mean increment of lateral shoots) of sample trees in last five years of growth have been analysed. These characteristics of growth are presented according to: height class, maternal stand density and following calendar year. It is stated that height class is the most important factor which determines growth dynamics of young trees. Weather conditions during the vegetation season also play an important role.
