Abstrakt

The vitality of silver fir stands growing in the lowlands is presented in the study. It was found that the structure and the vitality of fir stands are good in the ‘Jata’ reserve. Great numbers of very small diameters (dbh: 7-12 cm) and small diameters firs (dbh: 12-24 cm) shows that this tree species is very dynamic on the border of its natural range. The high vitality and quantity of small diameter firs (dbh <24cm) suggest the possible increase in the share of fir in stand species composition. The results revealed that the vitality of younger, smaller fir was affected by site type, phase of forest development and stand species composition. Fir vitality was not influencced by the growth condition of older trees.
